Private Course

GENRE: Young Adult Contemporary Romance
SUB-GENRE: Teen Drama
RELEASED: TBD

Samantha “Sam” Bennett, a stuck-up high-schooler, lives a seemingly-perfect life in an elite neighborhood in New York City, surrounded by her equally affluent friends and her socialite parents. But, if there is one thing lacking in her, that would be her academic performance. Sam’s lack of concern of it leads her grades – especially Math – to spiral down.

As a solution to improve her grades, her mother decides to hire a private tutor. Eighteen-year-old struggling student and an NYU hopeful, Derrick Lane, isn’t the usual candidate. While his intelligence clearly contrasts that of Sam, without her knowledge, not only her grades are about to change, but her life as well.

Trivia

Here’s some trivia regarding Private Course!

  • Set in the mid 2000s and is heavily inspired by chick-lit pop culture such as The Nanny Diaries, Gossip Girl, and The Devil Wears Prada. This happened to be the culture I grew up in as a high-schooler.
  • The idea of the story came from personal experience of being tutored by multiple math tutors due to my struggle at said subject. None of them were a hot, nerd dude so I made one up by writing this novella
  • My very first full-length work
  • Wrote it in the my first year of high school in just a month
  • Sam Bennett was modeled and inspired by Blair Waldorf
