Translucent

The Translucent Series Book #1

GENRE: Young Adult Paranormal Romance
SUB-GENRES: Gothic Romance, Mystery
RELEASE: TBD

As much as it sounded heavenly, there was no greater gift–and curse–than life itself.

Lisa Finch reluctantly moves from the bustling London to Aberfeldy in rural Scotland after her parents’ divorce. The last thing she expects is a supernatural encounter in her new, lavish home.

Cornelius Haywood has been dead for almost a century and despises the living. However, he is yet intrigued with the presence of Lisa in his former house.

Lisa is convinced Cornelius has unfinished business, which she’s eager to discover. Their interaction gradually turns into a ticking bomb, as Lisa finds herself falling for him. But is there any possible force in this universe that can bring them a “happily ever after”?

The Scottish Highlands setting you create sounds beautiful and lush, that adds a certain calming tone to the story immediately.

Trivia

  • Originally conceived as a short story in the Creative Writing class at my English course titled Different Worlds of Love when I was fourteen
  • It was then published in the publication of the English course
  • The initial inspiration itself came from a classmate in the same said class, who shared a story about her friend being followed by a presence from a campsite she went to. Some of the experiences she felt included light-headedness, which was featured in the novel. After consulting with a shaman, it was revealed the presence was harmless and followed her home because he was attracted to her. Her family and friends proceeded to arrange a ritual to cast him off back to wherever he came from.
  • Writing the first few scenes of Cornelius’ hauntings at night actually brought some spook to me that I had to wait until morning to write it.
  • Had always ideated it as being set in England due to my fascination with English literature, despite an initial suggestion to set it in Indonesia or in New Orleans, USA
  • Originally set in the English countryside
  • Also first published on Fictionpress
  • Wrote the first draft in high school and revised it after I graduated from college during my year of working my first full-time job in San Francisco
  • The earlier novel draft was called The Nightlurker
  • Drafted as a novel to expand the world-building and to add more depth and backstories of both Cornelius and Lisa
  • The flashback scenes are inspired by Downton Abbey
  • Cornelius Haywood was inspired by The Phantom from The Phantom of the Opera, and Beast from Beauty and the Beast. And yes, a bit of Edward Cullen from Twilight, because I was writing for the first time in the heyday of Twilight and other paranormal romance books.
  • Inspired by Beauty and the Beast.
  • The dark highland manor setting is inspired by Jane Eyre and gothic romance works
  • Currently garnered about 72.6K views and 3.7K votes on Wattpad and has claimed top ten ranks in “Ghostlylove” (a category/tag for ghost/human romance category), “Paranormal”, as well as other related categories.
